Isn't it funny how the closer you get to the end of something, the harder it is to wait? I've been waiting for about 4 years for my fiance to finish his active duty military term, and we are finally down to 6 weeks. It seems harder than ever now. There have been times when we barely spoke for 4 months during training or deployments, and times when we couldn't afford a plane ticket to visit each other for weeks at a time. But now the days in between our weekend visits feel just as hard.
I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way. My future mother-in-law has worked in special education for 35+ years, but her last year and a half seem almost unbearable to her. She is dying to move to Florida and say goodbye to the Cleveland winters forever.
I remember being close to losing my mind when my Pottery Barn duvet cover was on back order, and then got pushed back an extra week. I literally thought I couldn't physically wait any longer to get it. Even waiting for trivial things stretches my patience when the time comes near.
But I have a solution. I read about 4 mystery/romance novels in the week before Devin returned from his final deployment, and they kept me completely distracted. It's the only thing that keeps your mind too busy to be impatient, while providing entertainment at the same time. I tried everything else and this is the cure for impatience - unless you can't get lost in a book of course, but that's not a problem for me. So thank you Sandra Brown. Thank you Julia Garwood.

Gloves in Florida
I started my 37-week marathon training plan again today. This will be the third time I've attempted to get through it. Holidays, family visits and illnesses keep getting in the way. I used to use the excuse that if I were away from home, I didn't know the mileage of where I was visiting, but thanks to Nike + iPod, I can no longer use that excuse. I can't even describe how motivating it was to run with. At the end of my run, it told me exactly how far I went, my average time and how many calories I burned. I also got new running shoes and a new iPod, so I should be all set to complete it this time. I just need to find a marathon I can sign up for that's in 37 weeks.
Right now, I am dying to use weather as an excuse not to run. It was a high of 45 degrees here in Jacksonville today. I had to run with gloves and a hat on AND I had to put the heat on in my apartment. I wanted to be able to say, "I've never put the heat on since I've lived in Florida," but that went down the tubes. I finally had to give in last night when Bosha (my pit bull) woke me up digging on her bed because she was cold, and I had to cover her with a blanket. Maybe The Day After Tomorrow is coming true?
